Financial Adviser Exam Cost: Fees, Resits and What Else to Budget
4 min read · facts checked 12 Oct 2026
As at 12 October 2026, ASIC's FAQs say the financial adviser exam costs A$1,500 for each sitting, payable when you book. A resit costs the same A$1,500 again.
The fees at a glance
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Exam fee | A$1,500 per sitting, paid to ASIC when you book (Visa or Mastercard only) |
| Resit | A$1,500: ACER says the full fee must be paid again |
| Attempts | Unlimited, with no waiting period between them |
| Special consideration | If ASIC accepts that exceptional circumstances stopped you sitting or finishing, you may sit on another date without paying another exam fee |
| Late session booking | ProctorU charges extra for sessions booked within 72 hours of the test |
Special consideration
ASIC's exam policy lists examples of exceptional circumstances beyond your control: acute illness, a recent bereavement, hardship or trauma, a natural disaster, a public health order, an unforeseen call-up (military, jury or emergency service, or a court appearance) and equipment failure during the exam. Applications need evidence, such as a medical certificate or statutory declaration.
Refunds and transfers
ASIC's FAQs and ACER's registration page (checked 12 October 2026) do not describe refunds or transfers for a booking you no longer want. Ask ACER before booking closes if you are unsure you can sit.
What else to budget
- A computer that qualifies: a personal desktop or laptop (not a tablet, phone or work computer) running Windows 10 64-bit or macOS 11 or later, with a webcam and microphone.
- A private room and a reliable connection: ACER rules out public networks, mobile hotspots and VPNs, and recommends a wired connection.
- Time: about 5 hours on exam day, and study time before it (see the exam day guide).
- Free official material: ASIC's preparation guidance and practice question PDF, and ACER's online practice test once you are registered.
- A resit, just in case: another A$1,500 and at least one sitting cycle. See the dates for the gaps between sittings.
Our prices
