Reading the figures honestly
- Each sitting mixes first-timers and resitters. In the two sittings where ASIC split them out, first-time sitters passed at a higher rate (75.9% in June 2026, 72.3% in August 2026) than the cohort as a whole (71.7% and 67.73%).
- The 92.76% figure counts people, not attempts. ASIC's August 2026 release says 21,262 of the 22,921 individuals who have sat the exam have passed. Candidates can resit without limit, and the total includes the existing advisers who had to pass by the 2022 deadline, so it says little about any single sitting.
- Cohorts are small. With roughly 200 to 300 candidates a sitting, a swing of a few points between sittings is normal.
- About one in three does not pass on the day. That is the practical reading of a 66–73% range.
What it means for your preparation
The pass mark is standard-set each sitting (see how the pass mark works), so a pass rate tells you about the cohort, not the cut-off. The useful lesson is that a large minority fall short, and the questions reward applying law and ethics to client scenarios. The preparation guide sets out a plan, and the free mock gives you a baseline.
